Academic Checklist

• To register for classes you have to create and activate your myUMBC account.
• After you have created your account, indicate whether you will be accepting the offer of admission by logging in to your myUMBC account and clicking “Accept or Decline Admission”.

• The Office of Professional Programs provides orientation for all incoming students before classes begin. We highly encourage you to attend this important event.

• Shady Grove students should attend the USG Self-Paced Orientation.
• These orientations are separate from other orientations you may be expected to attend, including for the Graduate School or Office of International Students and Scholars.

Note: Registration for new students opens on June 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. Please view our Frequently Asked Questions page if you having trouble registering.

New students are enrolled in the tutorial prior to the beginning of the semester, after registering for classes. The academic integrity tutorial must be completed the first month of your first semester: September 15 (Fall) or February 15 (Spring).

This preparation course helps equip students with the skills, knowledge and resources they will need to excel in graduate degree programs. It focuses on developing academic, research, and professional skills while fostering critical thinking, time management, and effective communication strategies. Participants will gain insight into navigating UMBC student services and providing a foundation for success in their chosen field.
