International Partnerships

The UMBC Graduate Cybersecurity Program (CYBR) is partnered with several global universities on international cybersecurity education and research. Eligible students from these universities are offered a special matriculation pathway to continue their cyber studies at UMBC.

Accelerated Admission: The University of the West Indies

  • UMBC will admit UWI students into the MS Cybersecurity subject to the following:
  • UWI students, in their senior/final year of the BSc in Computer Science program apply to the CYBR MS degree program at UMBC via the regular UMBC Graduate School application procedures. Applicants must meet the admissions criteria for the CYBR MS program.
  • UWI students complete the following courses and achieve at minimum a ‘B’ grade based on UWI’s grading scale
    • COMP3320: Design Principles of Operating Systems
    • COMP3360: Networks Il
    • COMP3365: Networks IIII
  • UWI students maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
  • UWI students successfully complete the BSc in Computer Science program at The UWI.
  • After UWI students enroll at UMBC and successfully complete the remaining cybersecurity degree requirements (7 courses, 21 credits), they will earn the MS in Cybersecurity from UMBC.

Accelerated Admission: Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo

  • UMBC will admit UAEH students into the M.S. in Cybersecurity subject to the following:
  • UAEH students, in their senior/final year of the B.S. in Computer Science program apply to the CYBR MS degree program at UMBC via the regular UMBC Graduate School application procedures. Applicants must meet the admissions criteria for the CYBR MS program.
  • UAEH students interested in attending UMBC must complete the following courses at UAEH and achieve at minimum a ‘B’ grade (3.0 on a 4.0 scale);
    • DCC0009 Open Systems
    • DCC0015 Computer Networks
    • DCCO16 Network Security
  • UAEH students maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • UAEH students successfully complete the BSc in Computer Science programme at The UAEH before enrolling at UMBC.

Vellore Institute of Technology-Bangalore MS in Cybersecurity Graduate 1+1 Program

  • All courses accepted from VIT-B are graduate-level
  • Admission requirements are the same as for other UMBC Graduate School applicants.
  • Semester 1 to 2 will be in VIT-B; Semester 3 to 4 will be at UMBC.
  • The following VIT-B courses can be awarded in transfer to UMBC based on successful grades being earned (minimum of a ‘B’ grade).
  • Students completing required courses listed below with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the majors will earn a M.S. degree from UMBC.
  • How a credit(s) to a degree program will be determined by the graduate advisor and the Dean of Graduate Studies in the COEIT.

VIT-B students can begin at UMBC in the Fall or Spring Semester after completion of the first year courses at VIT-B. Students can follow the below course schedule:

Part 1. 1st Year (Semester 1-2) at VIT-B – 12 Credit Hours

  1. CS 7306 Cybersecurity
  2. CS 7305 Cryptography
  3. CS 7301 Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence
  4. CS 7201 Machine Learning

Part 2. 2nd Year (Semesters 3-4) at UMBC – 18 Credit Hours

  1. CYBR 655 – Security of Distributed Systems
  2. CYBR 624 – Cybersecurity Project (usually taken in final semester)
  3. CYBR 650 – Managing Cybersecurity Operations
  4. CYBR 658 – Risk Analysis & Compliance
  5. CYBR 652 – Enterprise Security
  6. One CYBR Elective
