UMBC Addresses Inequality in Education Through Innovative Programs
There is a major problem occurring in American schools that if left alone would spell disaster for our future. The issue is rooted in the lack of equality in classrooms. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the classroom teacher population is more than 75% women — and over 80% white. UMBC, a leader in inclusive and innovative education, is addressing this through innovative programs, initiatives, and partnerships.
New Degree Progam Launches at UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove
In Partnership with Montgomery College and The Universities at Shady Grove, UMBC is offering a new undergraduate degree program that will center around life sciences and biotech careers. Translational Life science Technology (TLST) is accepting applications now, and is launching in fall 2018.
UMBC Professor Explores Physical Laws Governing Quantum Computers
UMBC’s Sebastian Deffner, assistant professor of physics, examines the quantum world and its implications on computers and their limits. In a recent article in The Conversation, he talks about how these limits might apply in the real world.
UMBC Alumni to be Treated to a Special Event in Annapolis
UMBC’s network of alumni continues to grow and excel. On January 25, UMBC will celebrate alumni engaged in state public service careers as they gather in Annapolis. Alumni working with the Senate, House of Delegates, the Governor’s Office, state agencies, advocacy groups and nonprofits are invited to attend. The event allows alumni to connect with each other and share their stories of grit and greatness.
